The authors who wrote the book ‘The War for Talent in Emerging Markets: Why Women are the Solution’ expressed “the fact is that no company can afford to ignore highly qualified female talent if it wants to compete in these fast-expanding economies – and win”. This report surveyed around 7000 private companies across several countries. Results showed the proportion of senior roles filled by women exceeded 30 per cent across the major emerging BRICS countries, higher than the 24 per cent global average.
We realise that there is a need for more role models and mentoring in order for women to move further up the corporate ladder. Grant Thornton’s Global Head of Tax recently expressed their view by citing “the more you see senior women in role modelling positions, the more you inspire others to come through”.
The Head of Gender Parity and Human Capital from the World Economic Forum expressed “the approach to business is different and there’s a real recognition that innovation and creativity are sometimes more closely linked to female leaders.” “If you have large, fast-growing companies – say you go from 50 to 500 posts [in a company] – the need for talent overcomes barriers that may exist.” This suggests that the industry cannot solve the problems and the changes that it is facing today without a more diverse leadership team, boardroom and organisation.
