According to the latest IMRG Capgemini Quarterly Benchmarking Report released this week the number of visits to UK retailers online via mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets has overtaken that of visits via the desktop. This is accompanied by 36% of online sales taking place on a mobile device.
IMRG’s CIO Tina Spooner has pointed out that this represents a 2000% growth within the last five years as in 2010 mobile visits accounted for just 3% of the total traffic. Capgemini’s digital services leader Alex Smith-Bingham has noted “As retailers further develop their m-commerce platforms and as the technology becomes increasingly more sophisticated, we’ll see the role of the desktop in our day-to-day shopping cycle diminish”.
Consumer companies are recognising this increased importance of the m-commerce space and therefore recruitment of those candidates who have experience within the digital space is required in order to match this demand.
We understand this recent rise in mobile traffic is due to the ever changing and demanding lifestyles for professionals. Whether via a smartphone, tablet or iPad, consumers have ‘on the go’ access to the internet. No longer does one have to search on the desktop for endless, unsociable hours at home or at an internet cafe to gain information. This provides even the busiest consumer endless possibilities without interrupting their daily routine.
At IMSworldwide, we are able to adapt to the quickly changing requirements of the digital technology market as it is one of our practice specialities.
