LinkedIn recently announced its revenue, which increased by 47% in Q2 2014 to 534 million dollars compared to 364 million dollars in Q2 2013.
“The second quarter was a strong one,” said Chief Executive Jeff Weiner. “Our three revenue streams all experienced significant growth”. Over this quarter, revenue growth came from across LinkedIn’s main lines of business, including strong online-advertising sales, charges for enhanced users and recruitment media services.
LinkedIn’s recruitment media services provide a range of exclusive recruitment products such as Marketing Solutions and Talent Solutions. Some of the tools provided allow recruitment businesses to advertise and promote their company and it also allows in-depth searches for prospective candidates. Recruitment Revenue increased by 6 million dollars in Q2 2014 to 18 million dollars compared to Q2 2013.
LinkedIn was established in 2003, its niche as a means for people to make work-related connections online as opposed to other social networking sites that were predominantly for personal use. As LinkedIn went public in May 2011, its stock more than doubled on the first day of trading, which set the stage for being Web frenzy for the rest of the year. According to recent statistics, LinkedIn now counts 171 million members.
Future of LinkedIn
Mobile – the use of mobile devices has been mentioned as a possible future opportunity for growth. It was noticed that more than 15% of new member registrations took place via mobile phone devices this quarter, this is a 10% increase from the previous quarter. Mr Weiner informed that this quarter saw LinkedIn launch its first test on delivering advertising to mobile devices, but it has not yet been confirmed how successful the outcome is.
Sales Navigator –This product was recently launched and is an add-on feature that can be purchased. This product’s niche focusses on building relationships with professionals in the LinkedIn database, enabling those with access to this feature to connect with other members or businesses.
